Lead Capture is one of the Goals available in the Web Widget (formerly the "Smart Redirect Tool"). It lets your brand collect visitor emails through a pop-up form on your website. Once a visitor completes Double Opt-in verification, the system automatically creates them as a sendable MAAC Email contact, ready for use in EDM campaigns, automated Journeys, and audience remarketing.
Lead Capture is a good fit when you want to convert anonymous traffic — visitors who have browsed your website but not yet left their contact details — into an email list you can nurture.
Lead Capture: collects emails through a form and creates Email contacts after verification. Acquisition and redirect: guides visitors to your LINE Official Account or any URL, without collecting data. Profile Unification: binds a website visitor to an existing LINE contact. Brand awareness: image-only exposure that cannot be clicked. All four are configured in the same Web Widget setup flow — simply select the Goal under Basic settings to switch between them.
How it works
The core of Lead Capture is Double Opt-in: submitting the form is only the visitor's first consent. The system then sends a verification email, and only after the visitor clicks the link inside — their second consent — are they created as a sendable Email contact.
Double Opt-in is used to ensure that every email entering your list is real and deliverable. Unverified emails may be typos, impersonations, or bot submissions; sending to them causes high bounce rates and damages your sending domain's reputation. Lead Capture creates a contact only after verification is complete, so the list you see in MAAC is the list you can actually send to.
When the system can recognize a visitor as the same existing user, the verified Email contact is unified into the same MAAC contact as their existing identity, rather than creating a duplicate record. Whether this unification happens depends on whether the system already holds that visitor's existing identity.
Setting up Lead Capture
Lead Capture follows the Web Widget's existing setup flow, adding form and verification settings only when you select Lead Capture as the Goal. Basic settings, the display page, display style, display timing, and display frequency work the same as for other Goals — see Tutorial|Web Widget. The settings below are specific to Lead Capture.
Lead Capture needs to send verification emails, so before publishing, first set up an Email channel and a Sender Profile in Admin Center. If these are not configured, the system blocks the tool from being created or published and provides a link to the setup page.
Form Fields
You decide which fields the form collects from visitors, and whether each field is required, optional, or hidden.
| Field | Setting | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Always required | Required to create the Email contact; cannot be turned off. | |
| Phone | Required / Optional / Hidden (Hidden by default) | Set to optional or required if you also want to collect a phone number. |
| Name | Required / Optional / Hidden (Hidden by default) | Set to optional or required if you want to address visitors by name. |
💡 Tip: fewer fields usually mean higher completion rates. Unless you have a specific need, we recommend keeping only Email.
Privacy Consent
A fixed consent statement appears at the bottom of the form, and visitors must check it before they can submit. This statement is system-fixed and cannot be edited:
This design meets the active opt-in requirements of GDPR and personal-data protection laws, ensuring visitors join your list knowingly and with consent.
Pending Screen
After a visitor submits the form but before verification is complete, they see the "Pending Screen" inside the widget. You can customize its title and description; if a visitor did not receive the email, they can click "Resend" here to receive the verification email again.
Thank-You Page and Discount Code
Visitors see the Thank-You Page after they complete verification. Here you can set:
- Discount code: turn on Show discount code to enter a plain-text discount code (for example, a welcome code). Visitors see it on the Thank-You Page once verification is complete. If you do not provide a discount code, visitors see a standard thank-you message.
- Back to website button: the Thank-You Page includes a Back to website button; you can set its link to guide visitors to a specific page on your website.
Verification Email
The system automatically sends a verification email to visitors, and a MAAC contact is created only after the visitor clicks the link inside. You can customize the email's subject, body, and verify button text; the system also provides a set of default copy (previewed below) that you can use as-is or adjust to your brand tone.
📌 The link in the verification email expires after 24 hours; if the visitor does not verify within that window, the record is not created as a contact.
Auto-Applied Tags After Confirmation
You can specify a set of tags that are applied automatically after a visitor completes verification, making later segmentation and remarketing easier.
Performance Tracking
In the Web Widget performance report, the Lead Capture tool provides a dedicated conversion funnel so you can see performance at every stage, from impression to a successfully captured contact:
| Funnel Stage | Description |
|---|---|
| Impressions | The number of times the form popped up and was shown to visitors. |
| Form Submissions | The number of times visitors filled in and submitted the form. |
| Verified Contacts | The number that completed Double Opt-in verification and were actually created as Email contacts. |
The report also supports Download CSV for further analysis or archiving.
Usage Limitations
- The system creates a MAAC Email contact only after a visitor completes Double Opt-in verification; the verification link expires, and records not verified within 24 hours are not created as contacts.
- Before publishing a Lead Capture tool, you must first set up an Email channel and sender in Admin Center; otherwise it cannot be published.
- The Email field on the form is always required and cannot be turned off.
FAQs
Why is Double Opt-in verification required?
Unverified emails may be typos, impersonations, or bot submissions; sending to them causes high bounce rates and damages your sending domain's reputation, making the whole list hard to use. Creating a contact only after verification ensures the list you see in MAAC is one you can truly send to.
Where does a visitor's data go after they complete verification?
They are created as a MAAC Email contact and can be used immediately in automated Journeys, segmentation, and EDM remarketing. If you set a discount code on the Thank-You Page, the visitor also sees it the moment verification is complete.
If the same visitor is both a LINE and an Email contact, do they become two people?
No. When the system can recognize them as the same visitor, the verified Email contact is unified into the same MAAC contact as their existing identity (linked across multiple channels) rather than a duplicate record. This unification depends on whether the system already holds that visitor's existing identity.
Which fields can the form collect?
Currently Email (always required), Phone, and Name. Phone and Name can each be set to required, optional, or hidden (hidden by default).
Is a discount code required?
No. If you do not provide a discount code, visitors see a standard thank-you message after verification; this suits brands that use the newsletter subscription itself as the incentive.
Why was I blocked when creating or publishing a tool?
Lead Capture needs to send verification emails, so you must first set up an available Email channel and sender in Admin Center. Once configured, you can create and publish as normal; you can also click the "Go to setup" link in the prompt to go there directly.
